But I really think I am. I sin a lot and I never feel guilt and I don't want to be this way. I appreciate your words and I don't want to lose hope on the mercy of Allah but I really don't know if I'm sincere and i don't want to die in a state that means I can't be forgiven

If you don’t feel guilt then why are you freaking out in my inbox then?

Seriously, calm your face, you’re making God sound like a petulant teenager—astaghfurlilah—Who will be cruel and judgmental to you.

Remember, that maybe you enjoyed something bad, but that doesn’t mean you’re bad, or that you lack guilt, because if you lacked guilt, again, you wouldn’t be here.

The Qur’an says:

it may well be that you hate a thing the while it is good for you, and it may well be that you love a thing the while it is bad for you” [2:216]

Do you know what it says after right that?

and God knows, whereas you do not know”

You’re acknowledging that God knows, and you are inclining yourself towards being better, so stop freaking out. Stop it, now. You aren’t helping yourself, you’re just making yourself drown more, for no reason.

Do you know why?

Because you are denying God’s mercy. You are literally freaking out in my inbox and you’re trying to tell me you don’t feel bad? That you’re not sincere?

Stop it.

There is a Hadith Qudsi, reported in both Bukhari and Muslim, where God says:

“I am as the perception/assumption of My slave.”

This means that if you think of God in a certain way, He will be that way. So if you see God as merciful, you will seek mercy; if you think God is only angry, that is all you will see.

A sin does not define you, what you do next, does.

Repent and strive to be better, that’s it.
